KYLETUNEDIT MI4, SFI4, I4 and IO4 Firmware Update

The controller must be removed from the car and never have the connectors attached during this process.

Do not attempt to update the firmware while the controller is plugged into the vehicle!

Firmware is pre-loaded on the device, but it may be outdated. If this is the first time you are installing, update the firmware to the latest version. Support will not be provided on outdated firmware.

To view the currently installed firmware version, reference the data log items “Firmware ID”, “Firmware Major”, and “Firmware Minor” (requires valid logging config)

Download the latest firmware update program below. Ensure you select the right version for your hardware.

Insert a screwdriver and lightly pry the locking tab in to release it while lifting out on the connector until it moves about 1-2mm.
Switch to the other side and lightly pry the locking tab the same way. After this the connector will slide out of the housing.
Remove the connector and PCB from the housing and place on a non-conductive and static free surface (not metal or plastic)
Connect the Micro USB Cable to the port on the board and to the computer.
Open Windows Device Manager and find the number of the COM port of the USB Serial Device.
Right-click on “update-firmware.bat” and select “Edit” (you will have to click “More options” first on Windows 11)

Edit the COM port to match the one showing in Device Manager, in this case “COM3”

Then save the batch file and run it. (double-click it)

You should see the following message showing that it found the device present on the correct COM port.

Unplug and then plug the USB connector back in, and the firmware update will start.

You will see a “flash verified” message if the process completes successfully.

Reassemble the connector and PCB into the housing and reinstall into the vehicle. There may need to be an updated CAN configuration with a new firmware version, please see the firmware release notes.
